There was a comment made in passing that the festival was not wheelchair accessible, not even for a manual. Is this true???? If so, I'm stunned it was glossed over. And the "but it's in the woods" excuse is an old, worn out one. The Michigan Music Festival was harmful in many ways, but, damn, from the late 70s on wheelchair-using lesbians were frolicking in those woods. I frolicked in the woods with my power chair just last week. But maybe I misread the article. I hope so.
As an autistic person who has attended everyone except the first, I greatly appreciate the work and effort that has made it what it’s become! Always room for improvement. It’s no picnic doing disability/access work. Takes a lot of bureaucracy, time, patience, and attention, all of which are scarce for lots of us. I have been to 4QF for other events held there over the years. The property has definitely become more accessible, so there is hope for hemlock hole!
I saved this to read for a time when I'd be able to read it slowly and focus on it, because I knew it was going to be fascinating and light me up with thoughts, and it absolutely was and did-- thank you so much for this!
